my brief thoughts on.... 'How To Be A Serial Killer'

this is a hard film to clasify.... part mockumentary, part serial killer movie, part motivational speaker seminar.... but very entertaining.... the lead in the movie is charming nd charasmatic.... his student is kind of a loveable sad sack.... but together they do some pretty nasty things.... this movie felt very familiar, but at the same time foreign.... i found myself glued to the TV for the entire film, wondering where it was all going.... there was just so much going on....

you have a hapless video clerk who meets a friendly man who asks him if he would kill a man in the store who was being an a-hole.... this leads to the man shooting the a-hole in the parking lot and a friendship is formed.... more of a mentor relationship.... here the man is out to teach the clerk how to be a serial killer.... interwoven within the storyline is a motivational lecture on the same topic and interviews with a man talking about serial killers.... it sounds strange on paper, but it works very well as a whole.... i gave this 3 out of 5 stars.... mostly for entertainment value alone.... it was missing a little something that kept it from being a 4 star movie.... but i would still recommend it for fans of the genres mentioned.... and there's not too many movies where you root for the killer.... at least not too many i can think of.
