my thoughts on.... 'Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie'

I can't say that I've ever called myself a "fan" of 'Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!'. For some reason though, Eric Wareheim and Tim Heidecker always seems to keep me watching. I'm not sure what it is about the show, perhaps I'm hoping it will get better? OR perhaps I'm waiting for the funny parts? I don't know. It could be that it's like a train wreck. You keep watching in horror at what's going on.... you don't want to see it, but you can't turn away. It's just so incredibly bizarre. Either way, when I heard they were making a movie and I heard all the names attached to it, I was curious. I had hopes that maybe it would be better or different enough from the show to be funny. I can see lots of potential in them both, but It all seems to be being used oddly. Last night, I found out that it was on Netflix OnDemand, so I queued it up and away we went. I watched as it mirrored the show exactly. It was like an extended episode of the show, but with a few more stars and a lot more extreme humor. There was full frontal, fake penis piercing. There was a bath of diarrhea, that came out of the anuses of children. If Tim and Eric want to make you feel uncomfortable with their humor, than they succeeded 100% in their goals. I've seen a lot of insane things in movies, but usually they have a point. This movie had no real point in it's gross out humor. It was gross for the sake of being gross. I really don't know what to make of it all.

Here's the "plot" from Wikipedia: "Tim and Eric are given a billion dollars to make a movie by the Schlaaang corporation, but waste it. Their lives at stake, the guys skip town in search of a way to pay the money back. They try to rehabilitate a bankrupt mall full of vagrants, bizarre stores, and a man-eating wolf that stalks the Pizza Court, in order to get enough money to pay back what they owe." That is exactly what happens in the movie. Throw in some of the stuff mentioned earlier and some celebrity cameos and you've the general idea.

I really wish that these two guys would expand their horizons a bit. I can see there is something greater in them, they just need to let it out. It's like their stunted and don't want to try new things. They may be doing things that are "edgy" and "hip", but it all comes off as tiresome, the more they keep repeating themselves. I won't say that I regret seeing this movie. It did have some entertaining parts, they just were outweighed by all the filler. I'm going to keep hoping for greater things from these two and I'll keep watching whatever they put out. Eventually, they'll break out of their current mold and doing something a bit different. Until then, I guess you can give this movie a watch. Don't expect great things and you might not be let down.

I give it 3 out of 5 stars for being somewhat entertaining and for John C. Reilly. Not the worst way to spend and hour and a half, just not the best.

Other things to watch like this?: 'Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!'.... that's about it.
