well, here it is.... my 300th post....!

So, 300 posts on this silly little blog and I'm still going strong. Who would've thought that was possible? It's been a crazy journey, but one that's kept me sane. In celebration of that, I'm including some contact information reminders for me and for my friends. This blog isn't just about me and my ramblings, I like to think of it as a jumping off point for people to chat and to find other cool things out on the net'. my very brief thoughts on.... 'Zach Galifianakis: Live at the Purple Onion'

I have nothing against Zach Galifianakis. I've enjoyed him in several things and think he has moments of being very funny. Because of that, I took a chance on watching his stand up DVD in hopes it might be good. Now, it has moments of some very funny stuff going on.... but it's all so spread out and minimal that it's not really worth it to watch. I stuck it out though and hoped for some brillance. I kind of wonder if he writes his stand up ahead of time, because with the way he uses the piano and delivers his lines. If that was the case, then I could get a little more out of this and have more respect for him. Maybe I'm not getting the punchline? He's extremely popular and has a huge following, so perhaps I'm just out of touch. Either way, I wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't probably watch any other stand up from him. This is a 2 out of 5 star attempt by Zach Galifianakis and good for him for doing his own thing.... I can totally respect that. I just don't need to submit myself to it again.

my thoughts on.... 'The Slammin' Salmon' aka 'Broken Lizard's the Slammin' Salmon'

(terrible poster, by the way.... it looks weird.... and Kevin Heffernan's character is only a waiter for the first 10 minutes, the rest of the film he's in a suit and tie as a manager.)

When I first saw 'Super Troopers', I really didn't know what to make of it. But like with any great cult classic, it grew on me the more I heard about it. Soon, I was a convert. I've since seen and purchased 'Super Troopers', 'Club Dread' and 'Beerfest'. I haven't seen their stand up DVD 'Broken Lizard Stands Up' or their first film 'Puddle Cruiser'. (I am a big enough fan to have Jay Chandrasekhar's 'Dukes of Hazard' remake in my queue) It's bee a while since I've heard anything from Broken Lizard, but I recently came across one of their newest films, 'The Slammin' Salmon'. It has all of the regulars of Broken Lizard and their extended family. It feels and has the comic sensabilites of all of the others. I guess what I'm saying is, "I loved it!" I won't pull any punches with this review, it holds up to all of the other films they've made a 4 out of 5 star classic. Michael Clarke Duncan is a great addition, as well as a special appearance by Lance Henriksen.

The storyline from Netflix.com: "When a boxer turned restaurateur (Michael Clarke Duncan) announces a contest to his waitstaff, the good news is that the winner will get a $10,000 bonus. The bad news? The loser will be on the receiving end of a heavy-duty smack-down at the hands of the champ himself." What they fail to mention is that the contest is based on the fact that Michael Clarke Duncan needs the restaurant to make $20,000 in one night to pay off a debit and the only way to motivate the staff is to offer his prize. The math is obviously a little fuzzy for him. There is a lot of other stuff going on throughout the night and even though it feels a bit like the classic 'Waiting...', it's still a great flick and one I want to own.I really don't know what else to say that I haven't already said. Did I mention that Morgan Fairchild is in the film? Did I also mention that there is a lot of use of the phrase 'Mother F#$ker' by Michael Clarke Duncan?

What's really great about this film is how it blends the comedy into the storyline in even doses so you can enjoy it just as a film as well as a comedy. There's also a lot of subtle stuff going on that makes it re-watchable. If you don't catch it all on the first go around, you might get it on the next. It's like that with all of their films. I'm kind of guessing that this might not be the film for everyone, just like 'Club Dread' wasn't. I recommend you watch it and see for yourself. It's avaiable to rent from Netflix now and I'm returning my copy tomorrow, so you should be able to get it by Tuesday or so.

The only drawback of the film, lots of fish being served in the restaurant and I don't really dig on fish too much.

my thoughts on.... 'Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie'

After reading my 'Top 50' list, you all know that I love 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy'. It ranks right up there as one of my all time favorite comedies. I can watch it anytime, anywhere and love it from beginning to end. Now, 'Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie' has been on my to do list for quite a while but it didn't come with my version of the film. Netflix didn't seem to have it available to rent, so I waited until I was able to get a hold of it finally. Now I can say that I've seen this film. Basically, what it is.... they took extended scenes, deleted scenes and an entire scrapped subplot to put together this sort of sequel. All of it is of the same quality as the film you're all used to. It's just a whole hell of a lot of new footage. For die hard fans, it'll be obvious where the cuts are and the lack of continuity from the original. That doesn't make this crap, it just makes it not quite a whole film. It is fun to finally get to see more of the characters I love doing new stuff, for that it was worth the wait. I'm actually surprised at how well it turned out, based on the fact that this was pretty much made up of scraps. It also gives me hopes that maybe they'll make a sequel someday.... but only if everyone is back on board again. (It is being discussed and considered.)

The plot is this (taken from http://www.imdb.com): "While Ron Burgundy's rivalry with Veronica Corningstone continues, a group of unprofessional thieves better known as 'The Alarm Clock' try to make the truth known, whatever that may be." That's basically it. The whole Veronica thing seems kind of out of sync with the original film, but it's forgivable. Some of the stuff with The Alarm Clock is pretty damn funny and once again, Steve Carrell steals all the scenes he's in and who doesn't love his character of Brick Tamland?

I highly recommend this film to anyone who is a die hard fan of the original. Anyone else, you may want to think twice before you go into this one. Not that it's bad, it's just that it's more of a companion piece than a sequel. That should be made clear. Almost like a REALLY extended deleted scene. I'm hoping that someday in the near future that I can get this on DVD to go along with my copy of the original film.

Where the original is a wonderful example of 5 star comedy film making, this is more of a 4 star outing. It might only be 3 for those who aren't UBER fans like myself. There is a lot of really good stuff here and it just further solidified the 'Top 50' status of the original based on how solid the outtakes were. If you've never seen the first one, then you really are messing up hard. I really recommend that you go and check it out as soon as you can. I bet if you're a fan of the genre, Will Ferrell, Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd or Adam McKay films then you'll enjoy it. And after to finish that one, track down this pseudo-sequel and get your entire fill of the joy that is 'Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy'. Stay Classy San Diego?

NOTE: Since there is no official trailer to this film, I've included one of the funnier scenes with the guys. I will never look at burritos or crepes in the same way again. Ugh.

my thoughts on.... 'Who's The Caboose?'

The Netflix OnDemand streaming feature has proven itself to be the next evolution in movie watching. As if Netflix wasn't the greatest invention ever, this just improved upon it that much more. Thanks to OnDemand, I've found a lot of films that I'd have never seen before otherwise. 'Who's The Caboose?' is one of those movies. It's a little indie movie that, I guess, just made its way to DVD recently and Netflix made it an instant streaming movie right away. I found it because of my enjoyment of 'The Sarah Silverman Program'. (Again, thank you Netflix for finding other things for me to check out based on my likes and dislikes.) Now, this isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread or anything, but it's a good way to spend an hour and a half of your evening. It's funny where it needs to be, it's serious where it needs to be and it's clever in all the right places. The cast is a who's who of 90's comedy.... complete with Andy Dick, yes, Andy Dick. Most of the comedians are in the beginning of their careers or at least the earlier stages. Even back then, Sarah Silverman stood out as a comediane on the rise. She shines in every scene and is her usual, odd little self.

The premise of this is based on a documentary crew out to film homeless people in New York suffering from a rare and fatal disease that seems to only effect the homeless. After finding the topic to depressing they duck into a comedy club and find an up and coming comedian instead. Who they find is Sarah Silverman, about to head out to California to try her luck at landing a sitcom pilot. They follow her out along with her boyfriend and what happens next is their lives trying to make it in Hollywood. It's a pretty harsh look at the industry and the different way it treats people. Will she get her wish? Or will she end up back in New York as a struggling comedian? You'll have to watch to find out.... or read more reviews that are willing to give up the ending.

This movie really pulls no punches when it comes to the Hollywood system. I found it to be pretty smartly written and although it's not going to win any awards, it's still a damn good little flick. It's not restricted by it's budget, the film makers use it wisely with its mockumentary style. It was a little distracting in the beginning, but by the end it seemed really natural. It even had a satisfying ending, which a lot of movies can't seem to accomplish these days. It felt like it had a solid first, second and third act. This might not be a movie that I ever see again, but I would be more than happy to recommend it to friends as a worthwhile risk to take. (just make sure you have some interest in Sarah Silverman, if not.... you're going to dislike this one.)

'Who's The Caboose?' is a 'The Little Engine That Could' of indie/pilot season/Sarah Silverman movies. It'll sneak up on you, like a train, and make you feel a little warm and fuzzy inside by the end. I'm not sure that sentence just made sense, but that doesn't matter.... this is a 3 out of 5 star mocumentary with a small possablity of gaining some cult status. I could see that happening for those die hard fans of 90's comedians. David Cross, Kathy Griffin, Andy Dick, Sarah Silverman, H. Jon Benjamin, etc.... They're all here. (Sarah's little sister is even in this one, just like on her sitcom.) If I could change one thing about this movie? I think it's fine the way it is. Simple, silly and smart.

my very brief thoughts on.... 'The Bounty Hunter' (2010)

Gerard Butler kind of snuck onto the scene and has since made himself into a household name.... Jennifer Aniston, of course, has been a big name for years.... the idea of putting them together seemed good at the time.... but if you're going to cash in on the success of two big name stars, you'd better have a good script and a good director.... i just don't know that this one quite hit the mark.... there are the occasional moments where i giggled or smiled, but it never was laugh out loud funny.... i was generous in my 3 out of 5 star rating.... i can say some of that goes back to my long term enjoyment of Jennifer Aniston's previous work.... i also have a bit of a man-crush on Gerard Butler and that doesn't hurt.... so that makes me a bit biased.... in my rating of the movie itself, if they were replaced with different actors, i think it might have been more like a 2 star rating.... i don't think i'll ever watch it again.... i don't feel like i wasted my time either.... it's one of those movies where you are home sick on the couch and you check out what's on cable and this movie pops up.... you don't have anything else to do and nothing else is on, so you end up watching this movie.... you feel no better or worse at the ending, you just feel like an hour and a half has gone by and you got to watch two pretty people be silly.... it's OnDemand right now, so if you're at home sick and have some time on your hands, check it out.... just don't expect too much and you'll probably feel satisfied at the end.... i did.

my brief thoughts on.... 'Black Dynamite'

i don't care for Michael Jai White.... i never have.... whenever he's in a movie he is a distraction.... for example, in 'Spawn' he was the wrong choice and terrible in it.... there is just something about him that's annoying.... after saying that, i have to say that i really enjoyed 'Black Dynamite'....! and to think that he not only starred in it, but wrote it too.... i have a new respect for him.... it doesn't mean that i really like him very much, however he's proved why he's still working in Hollywood.... this movie is re-treading some familiar ground.... it's obviously a throwback to the old "Blaxploitation" films of the 70's.... noboby is hiding that fact.... the difference here is that this isn't a Zuckers brothers kind of spoof, this movie would actually stand on its own just as a good comedy.... it doesn't rely so much on gags that it doesn't have anything else to offer.... it's smartly written and slyly acted in such a way that it feels fresh.... regardless of the already familiar territory.... the casting in this is excellent and Michael Jai White stands out in the lead.... he finally draws focus in a positive way.... he feels like a Richard Roundtree and looks like him a bit too.... he embodies the 'Shaft' vibe.... i really enjoyed goind on this ride and wasn't sure what to expect and i was happily surprised with the results.... this is OnDemand right now.... so consider adding it to your queue.... it is well worth the time....

Black Dynamite is one bad mutha.... when his brother is killed, he takes it upon himself to find the killer.... and what he discovers is a plot that leads him all the way to the White House.... that's the basic plot....
if you like spoof movies with a smarted sensability and ones without the 'DUR DUR' idiot moments, this is the movie you need to see.... it's been a while since there has been a movie like this.... i liked it enough to slap 4 out of 5 stars on this movies ass.... there is a scene at the ending that sealed that deal all by itself.... i was glued to my TV from beginning to end.... and i'm a big enough man to apologize to Michael Jai White for my previous feelings on his career.... i may not run out to see his next movie because of this one, but i will consider it before throwing it under the bus.... (i'm also a little scared that he's going to come and kick my butt.... he's a pretty bad dude....!).... this movie will undoubtedly go down as a cult classic and a movie that people will still be talking about in a decade.... it has a timeless quality and that special something that is rare.... a comedy that is actually funny. (not like 'Meet the Parents.)

my brief thoughts on.... 'Dinner for Schmucks'

i like Paul Rudd, he's from Kansas City.... i like Steve Carell, he's not from Kansas City.... regardless of their Kansas City connections, i had high hopes for this movie.... it just seemed like a great reunion movie for these two funny guys.... the only drawback was the director was the same person who directed 'Meet the Parents', which i did not like.... but i figured i'd give it a shot and hope for the best.... what i got in return was a mediocre movie that i really don't ever need to see again.... not that it's a bad movie, it's just bland and predictible (like 'Meet the Parents' was....).... there were a couple of funny moments.... but the whole premise of the movie was the dinner.... and the actual dinner doesn't take place until almost the very end.... it seems like almost an afterthought to the rest of the movie, which is basically a buddy comedy.... i don't know how this compares to the original version of this movie.... but if they remade it, the original must have been a worthwhile movie....

Paul Rudd plays a guy who gets a big break at his job, but in order to get in good with his boss he has to go to his dinner party.... the dinner party is designed so that each person brings a complete mornon, but tells them they're exceptional.... and everyone there gets to make fun of the 'guests'.... Paul finds the perfect man, played by Steve Carell.... before the dinner occurs, there's a series of things that happen and Steve gets way more involved in Paul's life than he wanted.... hilarity ensues....
the end result of this was a 3 out of 5 star movie.... not a waste of the talents of Paul and Steve, i just wish they'd found a better vehicle for these two.... 'Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy' was such a better movie and featured these same two actors.... i'm sure it's not the last time we'll see these two guys together.... they have a long career ahead of them and a lot of movies to make.... if you're looking for a movie, just to watch a movie.... one that doesn't make you feel good or bad or happy or sad, then this is the movie for you.... i can check it off my 'to do' list now.... the end.

my thoughts on.... 'A Complete History Of My Sexual Failures'

every once in a while a documentary comes along that takes me by surprise and i fall in love with it instantly.... this originally wasn't something i was 100% interested in seeing.... but it came in the mail from Netflix on accident and i decided it was a sign to see what this was all about.... i knew the basic premise and that's what made me add it to my queue to begin with.... what's it about....? it's about something that i think everyone of you has thought about at some point in your lives.... going back to all of your ex's and asking them why you split up and what they thought/think of you.... in this case, Chris Waitt, our loveable hero decides that after years of failures in relationships he wants to try and figure out why.... and somehow he pitches this idea to the right people and gets funding to make this film.... he starts out by making a list of ex's he wants to interview about the topic.... and at first things aren't looking too good.... it's so questionable that he's almost shut down from finishing the film.... but he carries on and eventually starts to see things turn around and soon we're going along with him as he gets answers from the women in his past.... some good and some REALLY not so good.... however, it starts to show a trend and helps him to get a better idea of what it is about him that kept him single.... and by the time the third act rolls around, he's had his character arc and things finally start to go his way.... there is also a follow up short documentary about what happened after the filming and if you rent this DVD i recommend that you watch it.... if you enjoyed what you saw....

i can honestly say that i've contemplated this idea in the past.... granted, it was a bit before i was married.... and since then it really hasn't mattered.... but there was a period where i needed answers and it seemed like going to the source would be the best way.... in retrospect, i'm glad i didn't take that path as i'm pretty sure it would've ended up in disaster.... but i think it's a universal feeling.... to want to revisit what's already happend to get closure, answers, updates, or possibly a fresh start.... this documentary made that happen and was so well done that i felt completely satisfied by the end and wanted to watch it again.... i will be putting this one on my short list of films to own someday.... Chris is from across the pond and i don't know if that adds a different angle to this film or not, but i think it's an across the board kind of thing the way it pans out.... i may be alone in my love of this documentary, as i've heard some negative things about it.... but i equate it with Morgan Spurlock's 'Super Size Me'.... they are opposite types of films, but Morgan and Chris both have that 'It' factor that makes me want to hang out with them.... even if it's just for an hour and a half in a movie....
this film was deserving of 4 out of 5 stars and that's what i gave it.... a simple slice of one man's life, documented by himself and shown to the world.... warts and all.... he puts himself out there and sets aside the notion of possible judgement of his character in favor of giving the viewer something entertaining and educational.... the end is something i'd love to tell you about, but i think it's best you see it for yourself.... so go and add it to your queue and check it out.... i can only hope it gives you the same enjoyment it gave me.

my brief thoughts on.... 'Fanboys'

so you want to see a movie written for fanboys about fanboys....? well, this is that movie.... and for some reason, i'm wondering what took me so long to see it....?!?! this movie is full of inside jokes.... nerd jokes.... movie jokes.... comic jokes.... and quoteable moments.... this movie is every fanboys dream.... right down to the lead girl in the Lea bikini from 'Jedi'.... not too mention it's about the 'Star Wars' movies.... and even touches on the 'Star Wars' vs. 'Star Trek' battle.... it's full of funny cameos.... it's never boring and the script is hilarious.... this movie has just about everything you could ask for.... i don't know that anything i could write would really do it justice.... you just have to see it to enjoy it.... and it's already got a spot on my DVD shelf for the day that i own it.... and, oh yes, i will own it.... this is one of those movies that you can watch over and over and enjoy it every time.... i think this will stand the test of time....

the premise involves the upcoming release of 'The Phantom Menace' and a group of fanboys who are counting down the days to see it.... they even have a plan to make a trip to Skywalker ranch to steal a print and see it 6 months before anyone else.... all of this is just talk until they find out that one of them has cancer and may not live to see it's release.... so they start off on a roadtrip across country to see if they can make their dream come true....
this movie has so much going for it.... and there is one scene in particular involving two famous folks that made me laugh so hard i nearly passed out.... and then pooped myself.... granted the whole movie doesn't have moments like that.... but it's still a very funny and entertaining movie.... something that i gave 4 out of 5 stars and recommend that all fanboys and girls go and watch.... if you haven't seen it already.... i know i look forward to seeing it again.... it's a rollercoaster ride of comedy and drama that is a just a great example of what good filmaking should be.... go watch it tonight....

other movies to watch: 'The Phantom Menace', 'Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' and 'Film Geek'

my brief thoughts on.... 'Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood'

whatever happened to the good spoof movie....? they're all garbage now.... and Hollywood knows it.... it's all a matter of what the bottom line is.... get some unknown to write a slap dash script.... higher no name actors.... make the entire movie for next to nothing and you know tht between theater sales and rentals, the movie will make all the money back and more.... it's a no brainer.... but these movies are pointless and miss the whole point.... 'Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood' got the joke.... Shawn and Marlon Wayans understood what it was to write something that spoofed a serious genre and make it funny.... they hit the nail on the head and kept hitting it until you fell over laughing.... granted this isn't the only movie that they succeeded with, but it is one of their best.... and everytime i see it, i laugh out loud.... and it seems to be timeless.... it's just was just as funny when i watched it a couple of nights ago as it was way back when.... granted, it does help to have seen all of the movies that they're poking fun of.... but even if you haven't, it's still a funny movie....

the storyline basically uses 'Boyz N The Hood' as it's core.... but then spins out from their into 'Juice', 'Poetic Justice', 'Menace II Society', 'Dead Presidents' and even 'Higher Learning'.... not too mention, i'm sure that i've left some out.... a young man named Ashtray moves back into the hood to live with his father who's the same age as him.... he hangs out with his cousin Loc Dog and their friends Crazy Legs and Preach.... lots of hilarious stuff happens and all the while Keenan Ivory Wayans pops up every once in a while to point out the "message!" in the scene.... as if it wasn't obvious enough.... you just have to watch it to see the genius that it is....this remains a favorite comedy of mine to watch.... and there are many stand out scenes that are classics bits of comedy.... it was a no brainer to give it 4 out of 5 stars.... now, granted you may think i'm heaping way too much praise on a spoof movie, but perhaps you just haven't seen it.... or don't have a funny bone.... this is one that is intended to be included in my DVD collection and for some reason it has been purchased yet.... i guess that's my own fault.... in closing, this is OnDemand right now, so you have NO reason not to go and watch it damn it....! just do what i say. (was that too demanding....?)

i've already seen this movie.... but i enjoyed it and decided to watch it again since it was OnDemand.... if you haven't seen it, it's worth watching at least once.... Christopher Guest always has a biting bit of satire on a certain segment of society.... in this one he targets small town theater.... and in some way, theater in general.... granted it's not nearly as classic as 'Hamlet 2'.... but what is....? this still received high reviews from me for just how quaintly funny it is.... there's something sweet about it.... it's not mean spirited in any way.... and is very enjoyable....

a flamboyant director begins to work on a plan on the history of the small town where he's located.... and they learn that a famous man named, Guffman, would be coming to see the show and that it could possibly make it to Broadway.... so they put on the best show that they possibly can.... and what happends next....? you'll just have to watch it to find out.... damn it.if you like your comedies subtle and funny.... this is one you should see.... 4 out of 5 stars.... a 'classic' in it's own right.... and one of the better of Christopher Guests movies.... throw it in the queue.... what have you got to lose....?

my brief thoughts on.... 'Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter'

i'm surprised how many people have heard of this and seen it....! first advice for you, if you watch this, watch it with friends.... and beer.... it's not fantastic.... it's poorly acted.... the special effects are below low grade.... it's silly and poorly scripted.... not too mention it's overdubbed.... i suppose to get a better sound quality.... but it's kind of distracting.... the only real saving grace of this movie is the Mexican wrestler.... Santos....! (and even he's not that good.).... i guess the point of this brief review is that this is a guys night out kind of movie.... plain and simple.... for b-movie lovers only....

as the story goes.... lesbian vampires are running wild.... a couple of priests go and get Jesus from the oceanside.... and he cuts his hair, gets his ears pierced and sings a song then goes out to kick some ass.... the ass kicking is sub par by the way.... it's entertaining in a way.... especially the scene where he fights all the Atheists.... it's the crowning moment of the movie.... i gave it a low 2 out of 5 stars.... the only thing that raised it out of the gutter was Santos.... other than that.... this does not come with the Uncle Joel seal of approval.

my brief thoughts on.... 'Futurama: The Beast With A Billion Backs'

the third in the series of "in-between" 'Futurama' movies.... they just kept getting better and better.... and this one hits all the notes.... the plot may be a bit simpler to explain, but that doesn't mean it's a simple movie.... it's funny, creative and i really enjoyed it alot.... i wish i hadn't waited so long to see it.... there's a lot going on and a lot of the movie is subversive and sublime.... but it still hits you over the head with the obvious sexual overtones....

a giant tear in space threatens the earth.... the Planet Express team investigates.... soon Fry ends up going into the tear on his own and brings back a million tentacled creature that begins to overtake the planet.... but with love.... and not a regular love.... things get insane and it just gets funnier as the movie progresses....4 out of 5 stars.... a solid entry into the 'Futurama' lexicon.... it's tied with 'Into the Wild Green Yonder' as my favorite of the 4 movies.... and it makes me so happy that the series is back.... as this would have wetted my appitite and not made me full.... i highly recommend this for fans of the series.... you can't go wrong.

my thoughts on.... 'Film Geek'

it's been a slow month of reviews for me.... and sadly, i have a backlog of films to review.... so i may just have to review them in short to catch up.... however, this film caught me off guard and kind of pumped me up to write something.... so here i am.... this is one of those little diamonds in the rough.... something i stumbled across on Netflix OnDemand and decided to delve into.... and i was not sorry i did.... this is a gem of a movie.... one that is near and dear to my heart.... i mean, i used to work at a video store and at a record store and i have always considered myself a bit of a media geek.... all things entertainment.... and especially film.... so to see it represented in a film like this is refreshing and fun.... and i had no idea how they would carry an entire film around this character and his love of movies, but it's so well done that it kind of created a 'DUH' moment at the end.... it made me wonder why i second guessed it in the first place..... think of the first time you saw 'Clerks' and you'll get the idea.... this is kind of along those same lines.... but in color....

the story centers around a video store clerk who runs his own website http://www.scottysfilmpage.com/ and who knows all there is to know about film.... to the point of being annoying about it.... pushing too much of it onto the customers, the employees and anyone else who's in range.... and at first you feel that same sense of annoyance that they do, but gradually you come around to love him in a weird sort of way.... and you take up his plight of being a film geek in a world of merely movie watchers.... he soon meets up with a fellow film lover, who starts to broaden his horizons a bit and Scotty begins to grow a little.... granted, he never leaves his geekdom far behind.... i don't want to give away the whole plot as part of the joy is taking the journey with him.... but let's just say it's worth the price of admission....i gave this 4 out of 5 stars for being a great film for those whole love the medium and for those who just want to be entertained.... i can't say enough good things about this film and i highly recommend it to anyone with an hour and ten minutes on their hands.... it's worth it.... i don't know how easy it is to track down on DVD, but i'll be looking.... so stop reading and go watch.... NOW....!

my thoughts on.... 'Postal'

before i start this review, i have to point out something odd.... both Brendan Fletcher (from Uwe Boll's 'Rampge') and Zack Ward (from Uwe Boll's 'Postal') were also both in 'Freddy vs. Jason' as brothers.... not that it's that strange, but i had to point it out.... because i'm a film nerd.

anyway.... i said i was done with my Uwe Boll fest.... but i guess i lied.... for some reason i had a vague interest in seeing this.... and after reading quite a few good reviews, i decided to give it a shot.... besides, i needed a good laugh.... and this delivered some decent humor and sight gags.... the characters were fun and the acting was okay.... for a farce, it was passable.... i never found myself bored with this story.... and since i'm not familiar with the video game, i wasn't ever comparing it with anything else.... i was just basing my opinion on the movie i was watching only....

Zack Ward plays a guy who lives in a trailer park and is at the end of his rope.... he can't find a job.... everybody is getting on his last nerve.... his wife is a monster of a woman who he finds out is cheating on him.... with everyone in town.... basically his life is a joke and he's just realizing it.... so he goes to visit his Uncle Dave, the leader of a cult.... and is asked to go in on a scam to get money for Uncle Dave to pay off the IRS.... at first he's hesitant, but eventually realizes he has nothing to lose.... so the rest is basically the heist and ensuing violence....
this movie has a good cast of people including Uwe Boll himself and the creator of the Postal video game.... and neither is taking themselves too seriously.... there's lots of sexy women, violence and comedy.... there's also full frontal nudity from Dave Foley from 'Kids in the Hall'.... the comedy pushes a lot of buttons and some of it is in really poor taste and other parts are in extremely poor taste.... needless to say it's not for the weak of comedy.... granted, some of it may have been a bit to soon to joke about, but it just shows that they didn't care about who they offended, as long as it moved the plot forward....

once again Uwe Boll gets a passing grade of 3 out of 5 stars.... the movie was entertaining, but not great.... it's probably nothing i would ever add to my collection or that i would really need to see again.... and i don't know that i would brag to my friends that i'd seen this.... however, it was worth the hour and a half in my opinion.... word to the wise, this movie isn't for everyone and if you're a fan of the game it may not be for you.... i can't say for sure, but most of the complaints i read were in regards to the game vs. the movie.... well, that's about it.... and this really does conclude my Uwe Boll fest.... i promise.
